Maritime Security - Industry Information

The deadline of July 1st 2004, for compliance with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO), International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS) has imposed a wide range of new procedural and documentary requirements on ship owners and operators, port and port facility operators and related transport industry and government bodies.

Compliance with the ISPS code is mandatory and places extensive information management responsibilities on each participant or stakeholder in the maritime industry worldwide. Contracting governments to the ISPS code, their ports, port facilities, ship owners and ship operators must comply by the July 1st deadline. Failure to comply will cause loss of access to maritime facilities and maritime trade with all other contracting governments to the agreement.
